** Lush Bullock Butterfly Second rarest Endangered, extinct Caterpillars Ant's parent Protect Guide Wings Top mauve Orange veins Metallic flecks Blue green ~ red rich spots Striking patterns Male, pale blue Female White Written on: 3/22/2022 For the Form J - Just Write Me A New Poem Poetry Contest Sponsor: Constance La France ~~2nd~~ The Bulloak Jewel Butterfly is Australia's second rarest butterfly. The caterpillars are carried to the ant's nest high in the bullock tree by the "goldlock ant." They look after them and keep them safe from predators. The ants heard the caterpillars out at night so, they may feed on the bullock leaves. Unless the ant is present, the mature butterfly will not lay her eggs.

Congratulations on your win! A great tale of love and protection of God's creatures. There's hope because the ants and the butterflies have figured it all out ... surely, we humans can ... someday. Always a pleasure to read your fine poetry, Debra. Hugs, Bill

Hi! Valsa, the research was fascinating on this Butterfly. I guess the butterflies can say, "They had their "Aunts" to look after them." Thanks for your comment. Blessings ~ Debra

Dear Debra, your poem is lovely, and what fascinating information it tells. It's so interesting how the ant cares for the butterfly, and she becomes this beautiful creature who won't lay eggs unless the ant is present. Mother Nature's handwork :)
