Brown Eyes
BROWN EYES
With heartless, cruel intention
Vicious words rolled off her tongue
Like daggers sharp, they pierced his soul
And every word, more damage done
That moment tore his psyche apart
His self-confidence declined
An unrelenting hurt remains
Wounded both in heart and mind
Once deemed a perfect partnership
Harbours some unhappiness
Apprehension plagues his half
Weighing down his confidence
He hides his pain as time moves on
Still she threatens him to the core
Recurrent words, deliberate aim
Like all the times before
But the story has a silver lining
As most grey clouds contain
Now a wedge divides his love
With another love obtained
This love is one renewed
Not something new out of the blue
Where no one else would understand
To her, he tells the truth
Her trademark eyes, dark brown and deep
Behold a remedy
A steadfast heart of gold inside
Is worn upon her sleeve
She hopes her touch will soften,
And his fears somehow consoled
His confidence rebuilt,
And his self-worth again restored
For she knows a scar has settled
And the pain's still real and true
She hopes that like a soothing balm
Her love helps mend his wound
Brown eyes wants what's best for him
His happiness matters too
Brown eyes knows that all too well
For she is living proof
Though miles apart, she'll try her best
To vacate those hurtful words
And affirm when all is said and done
A spirit broken reaps reward
