Broken

An uncomfortable silence when you walk into a room Everyone looking at each other but looking away too soon How can a deployment this easy be so hard? How did we go from being friends to looking at each other from afar? Everyone holds their tongue not wanting to be the first to speak No one wants to be the first to look weak How do we fix this? Where do we go from here? What is it that has us all frozen in fear? Friends turning on friends in hopes to get ahead Only later to regret what they did But by then it's too late that bridge has been burned People are forced through lessons they didn't think they'd learn This brokenness lies on us and that's the truth at the end Surrounded by strangers that were once friends

A very profound and deeply moving piece on broken friendships. This reminded me of a friend who was not really one, and the choice to walk away from her was both a relief and a release. Sometimes we have to protect ourselves from people who harm us instead of caring for us.
