Her big eyes shone while to her chest she clasped the violin her dad worked hard to buy. Delightedly that Christmas morn, she gasped to see it; then she promised she would try with all her might to learn to master it! She practiced hard. The girl that they called Bright Eyes would dedicate her all. She never quit. Each day and night, she strove to memorize the strings’ sweet notes, in love with allegretto! How quickly she caught on, and one main goal was in her offering of a vibrato, which - when it filled the air - might touch one’s soul! Today she casts such magic with her bow that all who hear are warmed by Bright Eye’s glow. written 12/29/14 by Andrea Dietrich Now for the Trashed 4 Poetry Contest Sponsor: Broken Wings

This is what I call a musical poem! I like sonnets, and people with spunk, and violins, and definitely vibrato. Be assured that this one has "warmed my soul" too!

Who is Bright EyeS? Someone real? My late father was a composer and set 8 of my poems to music. Music has charms - but Dr Andrew Weill says it has dangers as well. What do you think? Peace & Love Matthew Anish

I love this sonnet, Andrea. It's amazing how one moment in time can change a soul for life. God's love through her father gave her a love that was meant to be hers. Very wonderfully written and quite an inspiration. totally enjoyed reading this one, my friend.... Robert.

Ahhh... Great poem. And a Happy New year... When I was young I wanted to learn the violin... But learned I could memorize a song for only a short while... Then my memories would disappear... and with it, all I had learned... Building upon lessons and trying to remember complicated songs... and yes simple ones too... was too much stress for my epilepsy. But I am a great listener... I found my perfect place. Listening... and enjoying.

Lovely poem, Andrea! I particularly like the part that briefly mentions how her father had to work hard to buy it. This one little, almost insignificant, line says so very, very much. The fact that he was prepared to work even harder than he normally did, to support his family, so he could afford his little girls violin just choked me up...wonderful line!! :-) john
