Bravo Toro! Snorting and bloodied in the mid-day sun, he paws the ground. His angry eye is fixed. He charges and the matador is spun off balance, tangled in his cape, he trips. His suit of lights impaled and tossed aloft, transfixed, a crumpled rag doll, motionless, the crowd is silenced. Yet again he’s tossed. A deep groan from the crowd. The bull, possessed, exultant in his own in-bred finesse, senses the blood of generations past course through his fighting frame until, at last, distracted and victorious he makes way. This bull will live to fight another day.

Your poem makes for very interesting reading Peter as I sensed - due to your vivid descriptions - I was there watching..which worries me because I'd never watch such a thing. We were on holiday once in Portugal and someone tried to sell us tickets for a bullfight. I told him tradition is not an excuse for cruelty. I digress..I'm glad the bull won. :) Cheers - Gary

A figment of my imagination, Gary. I totally agree with your views.

A lot to think about in this one Peter. There's no side to take with the bull fighter, the bull and the crowd all having dark shadow over their actions. The bull is the only one who had no choice though and is victorious, as you state, by breeding, to get to that point. Then the forgotten unseen Mr Big, running the event, making the matador seem an innocent almost too. I'm wondering if the coffee shop put caffeine in my decaff - apologies! :) Good poem!

Thanks DD. There was supposed to be a photo accompanying this poem, but for the life of me I can’t get the photo and poem to come together. Very frustrating.
