Bragging Egmit

I am the only patriotic red, white and blue gnome in the USA, Egmit said. I was surprised at Egmit’s braggadocio but kept silent. The 4th of July parade starts at two, and I knew the theme was gnome. By three that afternoon, Egmit had a long face, he was in tears. There had been over two hundred patriotic gnomes in the parade. You are the best one, I told him. This seemed to cheer him a notch.

Even gnomes have an ego. It was kind of you to cheer him up, Caren. Bill

I do my best, but I cannot work miracles, Bill.

Oh my, it is dreadful to think you are the best at something only to discover that hordes are better than you. I think I've known the feeling many times...especially while entering contests!
