Border-lie

A border is a line drawn in the sand Constantly shifting if you have time to see A personality is a borderline ebbing Time ceaselessly flowing us away One side unreachable as the far shore The other, all that is good, so secure Righteousness is our scarlet letter Which side am I on today without a center? Without a tether my territory dissolves The shifting sand erases my lines Nations are defined by treaties and borders The other side infidels wanting harm Good people never go to the edge Soldiers and the depressed are conscripted We with our life line stretched to breaking We, the few, dig another line in the sand We with guns and the other with party favors They beguile us with spirits and Camels They say it’s always Christmas in the trenches They say give us a smoke and spam In return, they’ll give us a light and relief Above us the constellations laughing We down below make cat's cradles The planets and stars party hard regardless When the full moon descends we’ll battle We draw lines in the dark thinking we're Alamo The children of Eve know no celebration We all have work to do after the last drink So, I’ll man my guns hoping for another meter You shall not cross this borderline But I’m the infidel and the righteous We draw borders around the globe We draw a line between us and them Whether we are Axis or Allies Here is Africa and the Continent Between me and the better me is me Without borders I am whole With a line, I divide me from me So, I draw a circle in the sand And the dunes outside laugh Sandstorms are ignorant of lines I’ll then draw a circle large enough Enough to hold both hemispheres Hoping space will respect my space Till only the edge of the universe is left Outside its borders is the unknown In time I’ll have no borders

I liked reading your lovely poem on Border-loe. It will be nice to see a borderless world, but it is far from reality. Love your thoughts.

Thank you, Jay. I'm blushing. Yes, very true. It seems all of nature except us don't believe in borders. I wonder who is right.

This line stood out and resonated for me "Between me and the better me is me" - particularly as all the while the stars and galaxies watch on at the huge amount of expended energy going on in this internal fight. I too ponder the answer to 'if I'm the boss, then why doesn't that solve my every dilemma satisfactorily?" I can decide to be better and be better, surely?! Less poetically I call it doing my own head in, then I patiently wait for myself to stop doing it... I enjoyed your musings

In my estimation of your poetry and in response, you are getting better and better. I'm glad you enjoyed my internal struggles to dissolve borders. Every time I erase one, another circumference appears. So very annoying. So very human, I guess. Deep thanks.
