Bonhoeffer
*Bonhoeffer*
If ever I had a role model it would be he
For he is as bold as they came
Preaching the gospel during the most turbulent times
Undermining Hitler and the Gestapo
He was a pastor
He was a spy
He lived to share his faith
Burrowed deeply within the basements of the Roman Catholic Church
He longed to set others free from the heresy
With his wife and beautiful children always an elbows reach away
He knew that his Savior would shelter them
He is much like me with his brash attitude
Laying out all the facts on the table
Do you choose Jesus Christ? Or do you choose the world?
Do you choose the ways of the establishment?
Or do you choose eternal life?
“You can’t have it both ways!” he would say
As he sported his nice jacket and shiny shoes
His father and mother knew there was something extra special about their son, Dietrich
They knew there would be a mystery about his life after all
He gave his life to serve the Lord
He gave up all hope of ever getting out of his cell
He preached his last sermon on the way to the gallows
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Prophet
Martyr
