Bob Wire

As a kid, I was told
To beware and not touch
If I ever encountered Bob Wire.
This warning was something
I took quite to heart
So avoiding it was my desire.

It took many years
‘Til I learned that the word
Wasn’t “Bob” but was “barbed” with an “r;”
And that knowledge made sense
For a danger named Bob
Seemed both harmless and rather bizarre.

I saw some today
On the top of a fence
And remembered my enemy Bob.
As I chuckled, I thought
That just being a kid
Is a challenging, difficult job!

oh, my, another GREAT poem on something so simple and yet so interesting. I used to think they were saying "sacrament gym" instead of "gem" for the little message we took in church prior to taking sacrament. And I believed "there's a bad moon on the rise" sung by Creedance Clearwater was saying "there's a bathroom on the right" it's great fun to think it is something other than what you are really hearing!

Excellent 6-line verses... again, with sublime cadence and rhyming. And what a lovely story! From now on I will call it 'bob wire' in memory of you! Well done Ilene!! Best wishes, Keith

Bob Wire is my friend, taught me not to pretend to be something that I'm surely not. I'd cross the line taking what wasn't mine. Thinking that I would never get caught.
