Boats Lie Still

BOATS LIE STILL Listen…quietly… the streets are silent the rain falls cold and snow is sure to follow time as usual jumps ahead and waits for no man Do you hear the song sung by the sailor home from the sea a foghorn accompanies him his ship is at rest, snuggly tucked in its berth Come, morning sun, banish the darkness! Trees spread their branches to protect dew-drenched leaves heavy mist falls, muddy roads get muddier, summer flowers hibernate ditches filled with rainwater begin to freeze as winter’s raw edge looms In the early morning desperate men set sail in fishing vessels others don’t sail as they’re tired their nets too often come up empty town’s women gather and comment on the sparse catch Fear is in their eyes wondering how they’ll feed their families in the future or worse what will happen when all the fish are gone today’s dire economic forecast wears hard on the young Though spring renews youthful spirits in winter they wither as the daily grind offers no hope no matter how earnest the labor In May things may improve but living is not easy on this planet that suffers from climate change this weather event is still denied by business interests Where money is involved lies are easily told and believed but people die when selfish decisions consider only profits and not the reality of daily raw human needs O’ foolish Children of Industry who think filthy lucre can be toted into Heaven, Beware! Discompassionate hearts are not welcomed in our Father's House.
