Blackness Now Is Mine

"I see a line of cars and they're all painted black With flowers and my love both never to come back" from Rolling Stones' Paint it Black You’ve died and gone away. Your soul has fled! Abiding blackness now seeps into my head. The bright hues all around me I simply cannot comprehend. How sickening is the blue of sky and the vivid green of trees hovering around the ground beneath which you now lie! Let their leaves turn black, and let that sky turn overcast. How can sun shine? Pretty flowers red and blue - I want to see them die. Blackness now is mine, for in this world no longer is there You. A diamond but carefully honed, certainly not rough, and a fitting testament to a lost soul.

The color of black symbolizes the grief of death, it absorbs all light and life. A powerful write -- your center line is ground level and then you bury it deep. Nicely done.

This graveyard scene is dramatic as a pistol. All the things one won't admit, but are felt nevertheless. Love, daver

This is great, Andrea! A perfect interpretation of the song. All the songs for this contest I know so well (except for one). It makes it hard to choose one. I'm leaning towards Winds of Change. I was a senior in high school when the Berlin Wall came down...thanks for visiting my Homeward Bound entry. I usually steer clear of lyrics, but the music reminded me of a church hymn, so I just went with it.
