Black Diamond Star, diamond, gleaming white, dots night sky with glowing, sparkling light. But when its time is done, that brilliance wanes to expire; then a black dwarf it will become. Once awake and bright, a gem in sky, sleeps as black diamond in space lullaby. Sandra M. Haight ~3rd Place~ Contest: Black Diamond Sponsor: Nayda Ivette Negron Judged: 08/12/2016 Note: After stars like the Sun expand to become red giants, they will end their lives as a white dwarf star, until finally dimming to become a black dwarf. For what happens to massive stars, way larger than our sun, read Daniel Turner's very interesting explanation in his comment below!

I love your etheree, Sandra - it is clever and lovely. Daniel's comment is of interests, too, is it not? Between the two of you, I learned something this morning, as initiated by your lovely poem ... CayCay

Thank you, CayCay. Yes, Daniel's comment is very true and applies to massive stars, those way bigger than our ordinary sun which is a small star in comparison. Hugs, Sandra

Wonderful, Mrs Sandra. Most people do not know what happens to stars when they die? (FYI) The really big ones (supernovas) sometimes explode and the shock waves initiate star formation in other interstellar clouds. The remains can form a black hole depending on the mass of the original star, over a period of a few billion of years of course:)

Thank you, Daniel, for your supportive comment and the great information you provided on dying stars. I have directed people who read my poem to your comment to find out what happens to to the massive stars! Thanks! Sandra
