I think Humpty Dumpty is about the death of a soldier who couldn't be saved. All depicting such dark times in history. I'm going to look up the London Bridge origin, interested now. Your poem would be a good topic for a college children's lit' class or a history paper: A Deeper Look into the Dark Nursery Rhymes of the 17th Century. Your poem could be part of the assignment, maybe on everyone's first page. Your writing is so clever!!

The Grimm brothers should be forewarned just by their names, I would start there! Thank you, Marikate for your insightful input! Robert

They get outrageously frightful, old nursery rhymes don't they, and wise tales as well.

Some may call it child abuse, because they make a significant impact!

Good one. They say that so many of these were political works describing events in the political arena back in those days. Thanks for sharing. Sara

You think that's bad, what's up little miss Muffet and what in God's name is a tuffet!

You know, Robert, I too have wondered about that from time to time. Some nursery rhymes are filled with horror and horrendous conclusions.

Look at Jack, he got a fractured skull, in a so-called delightful nursery rhyme!
