Bird Song To a Sunrise

I rose this morning to sweet bird song, Almost painful to my ears. A thousand creatures singing, With every solo clear. As the world begins to wake, Their sound will slowly fade. Into the background of our chatter And all the excess we make. But if you listen hard enough, You will still make out their cry. A soft and gentle lullaby, Floats a rising sky. Feeling at one with natures’ dawn, Sitting here naked to the eye, A gentle breeze to keep me warm, From where no one else can see. With each word I add to this page, The sound becomes harder to hear. The Sun breaks a window pane, Morning is drawing near. Though it is not the birds that quieten, Their song still pungent and loud. It is us that make a greater noise, Wrapping nature in a shroud.
