Green Limbs and Singing Birds - CityOfAgapeCityOfAgape

(Image courtesy of cityofagape.org)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pausing next to tall brush and oak trees, I hear the calls of a bird in the immediate environment around me. This little bird is singing a simple melody, two staccato eighth notes which repeat five times. Its call is compelling; I am lost in the melody, picturing how it might be written as soprano notes on sheet music. After two bars of the same melody, a second bird joins in, holding a single legato note. The first bird is a tufted titmouse and the second a blue jay. I am mesmerized, pondering how and why would these two very different types of birds in stature, color, brain size, and behavior, with completely different calls be communicating with one another?
wings flutter and soar melodies fill the crisp air spring’s sweet symphony
I hear our local Cardinals daily as they dart among backyard trees. I suspect the chirping is a come hither song of spring mating. Your poem celebrates spring with just the right notes. So well crafted. Best wishes. Brian
thank you, Brian, for sharing your thoughts about the local Cardinals. You're right...all the riotous chirping I hear must be 'come hither' of spring mating. :-) I appreciate your visit and kind words about my poem. Have a splendid day, Sara
I love the sound of birds trilling no matter the time of day and night or the season. They do seem to harmonize beautifully without a Maestro. Lovely penning!
Dear Sara, Immersed in nature's orchestra, I couldn't help but think of nature. Your love for the intricacies of life echoes in every bird song, each note a testament to the beauty of diversity and connection. As the tufted titmouse and blue jay harmonize, we each have our own unique melodies blending in the friendship. Let's soar on the wings of curiosity, exploring life's wonders together amidst spring's sweet symphony. - Blessings, my friend, Daniel
awww, you're most kind, dear Ink. I realized a few days ago that I hadn't written a Haibun in a while...they're a joy to write for me. I've been experimenting with different forms and themes...just to mix up my brain a bit :-) Glad you had a positive experience through my words. Hope you have a splendid day, hugs, Sara
It is amazing how they interact with each other. So many species come to the birdfeeders, and I watch them interact with each other. Most of the fighting takes place among birds of the same species. Occasionally, I will see a small bird chase a large bird which I think is futile. The little bird usually wins. I enjoyed reading about your walk and discovery. I haven't seen many yellow birds in this area. Just occasional goldfinches. I think they come through in migration. Sara K
I agree, Sara K. Bird interactions are fascinating. The mockingbirds here will take on anyone, including our neighbor's cat. Both are relentless in their pursuits of one another. The bird wins everytime. :-) Thanks for your delightful comments & have a great day, hugs, Sara
They both celebrate life -- spring makes every species sing and yodel. Think I will hit a few tenor notes, joining in. The neighbors are use to my spontaneity by now. Even in the winter I give them no reason nor warning. Love it!
