Beyond the Clouds
Awakened by the light I flew
Beyond the clouds into the blue
Below a field, a cotton bed
Grey and white, a jumbled spread
The radiance in sunlight sky
From up above, up very high
Those resting on the ground can’t see
The beauty of the cotton sea
Billows flow in surging wind
Reaching up to meet a friend
Nothing stops them in the air
They greet the sunshine maiden fair
A silken city built of soft
Who’s that holding it aloft?
Always new, a changing sight
Marshmallows meet to share the light
Each one is of a different sort
Some are tall and some are short
Flattened like a table top
Then round and lumpy like a drop
Darkened bottoms, snow white heads
In the evening orange and reds
Still higher in the sky I flew
Beyond the clouds, beyond the blue
Out where the stars are smiling down
Beyond the Sun, far past the sound
Readied and equipped to see
Both heaven and the galaxy
Far beyond our universe so old
Lies more, the story’s yet untold
