Beyond the Breakers

In shallow waters, I look out to sea. Small waves are lapping, giving me a sting upon my legs with their frigidity. My body, with my thoughts, is wandering as I wade farther, ever farther out. Beyond the breakers, I would love to go. Could anybody even hear me shout if I were caught inside an undertow? A splash of violet on twilight’s sky reminds me I must stay nearby the shore! Deep feelings surge like waves. I want to cry. How beautiful it is, yet I want more! Vast ocean, like my dreams, is out of reach. I turn away and wade back to my beach. Feb. 8, 2017 one of my biggest disappointments for an N/A last year Now entered for Line Gauthier's "Another Stunner 2017" Contest

I really like this piece, Andrea. Congratulations on your strong showing! I like how you come full circle back to the beach from which you started. This is so often true in life. Nice job!! :) Bartholomew

I was double down sure I'd already commented on this, but I don't see my face down there! Yi. I love the originality behind your approach. Ocean responses continuously roll thru those standing in her waves, but rarely are they shared and that's what I loved about this. Loved it when I read and commented earlier to, I just know it! Love ya ... CayCay

Oneirologists say dreams of the sea represent an abundance of emotion. Your poem was like a dream sequence in which you both love and fear these emotions (the undertow, being out of reach. Beautiful descriptions of the water and what it represents to you, Andrea. Awesome! Love, Carolyn

Oh, the pull of the ocean, wise to keep one's head about them when in the water. Super sonnet, Andrea. Nice theme, great rhymes.
