Beware of the Year 20 Something

Twenty one seven! Beware of this year! The numbers themselves should strike you with fear With global warming sea levels will rise Big brother is watching and plainly disguised Bird flu is spreading - a nasty disease The rainforest will lose over half of its trees A batch of new leaders will run all amok Alliances shifting to change trading blocs The rabble is moaning and causing dissent The coffers are empty the money's all spent Everyone's cheating at sports for the gold More war greater good - or so we are told Please listen - take care - this prophet of doom Nothing looks hopeful - it's all evil gloom If you finish the year then get an old pen Change seven to eight and read this again Written some time ago - can't remember when - keep updating it each year! :-)

Thanks Darlene - I think that 2017 will be known as the year the world changed.

This is scary stuff , Mark. Yeah, and sadly, it looks like the way the world is headed. My daughter is into all the conspiracy theories and I have to agree with some of them. WE are doomed. I just hope you have to keep updating that poem for a good while longer, year after year after year.

We could probably rule out any conspiracy theory that depends on government competence :-) Still can't help feeling that denial and neglect will be our undoing. If you see this poem resubmitted next year, we're probably still ok!! Thanks Andrea! :-)

Also, there's a banana peel AND a wet bar of soap waiting in my path! Love the dry humor, Mark. This is also skillfully-written--a 7. Janice

We just can't worry about the unknown Mark. I just hope the good outweighs the bad.

Can't agree more! The same predictions seem to be made year after year - yet we're still here and they never seem so bad. Thanks Tim :-)
