Betrayal
Her eyes betrayed her and in that moment
he saw an ocean between them-
so sweet her smile that so oft would light his world
now empty, cold and false.
Her manner though polite held no warmth
he saw a desert between them-
so empty her words that once filled him with joy
now she brushed away a tear to affirm it.
His heart broken and promises lay waste
as he turned to leave and in that moment he knew-
his imagination had not tricked him
clear as day turns to night he had lost her.
Once he had ventured in hope of a great love
now he was broken and, like a mirror that falls and shatters-
his hopes and dreams lay in shards upon the ground
and his heart in as many pieces.
