Best Boy Beyond Precocious boy, yon ere the age of twelve, Parades vast knowledge, complexity swelled, Our simplistic share was well understood, Kept back of minds, preserves naive childhood. Green imparts years cherished adolescence, Bottled, we heed, coupled coalescence, Errant appendages spark normal steps, Blessed gifted faculties, as classmates frets. Removed and placed amongst the elder kids, Baffled apostles sought entertained bids, A young mind satisfy matured scholars, Acquaint the novice school well-spent dollars. Stands amidst the rare few emboss his name, An honorary plaque glistens the fame, Hung in the schools enclosed glass curio, Caught all cherished moments on video. Commencement day, he did stand with the rest, His valedictory speech of years blessed, Preteen vested had rivaled teenagers, Acclaimed college exemplary majors. Evolved above academia's zone, Ate hamburgers, fries, and an ice cream cone. 2021 March 29 *3rd Place* A Graduation Blessing ~~BJ Legros Kelley

Congratulations on your win William! This is an adorable poem about a genius child's high honors, and the sweet innocence of the darling last lines '...Ate hamburgers, fries, and an ice cream cone.' I loved it. I am reading other comments and see You are the child portrayed! Very sweet and very impressive!

Many thanks, Sam, as this reminded me when I graduated HS at an early age and not with my class I grew up with, driven by school faculty and parents, my true HS experience, and what could have been being reflected in my actual class yearbook and their graduation pics, Aloha!

Wonderful. I thought you were going to say "Flipped hamburgers, ate fries, and an ice cream cone." Too many kids these day get their honors and wind up "flipping hamburgers" for less than minimum wages. I loved this poem William. It got my brain cylinders cranking!

Mayhaps Mickey-D's afeared child labor laws, you do raise a point, when helping the homeless at a soup kitchen, met a guy in his 30's who rather sleep on the sidewalk a block from McDonald's than work there saying $ not worth the effort, I left him with his pride and warm cross-bun, thanks for sharing, Milton, Aloha!
