Belong

I look to the shadows with a different longing. I dwell in the dark and there I shall belong. Beneath the clear moonlit sky, I glow with a pride that I’ve never known. Here I stand, as tears still stain these cheeks. But they help me breathe, As, the crowd begins to accept me. I no longer feel alone. My head no longer dips in cower. Fear still etches my heart, But I pay no heed, As I look at the blood stained gravel, I smile. It was already starting to wash away. No more scars disturbed the curious glances that came my way. Nothing left to shed my blood over. Nothing left to cry over. The shadow never left my heart and soul, As I began to call it home.
