Believing Is Seeing
All that endures lives in the heart,
Never to be grasped by the hand.
All things we build, we build upon sand;
What labor makes, Time pulls apart,
The toils of one Age end, and Another's start.
Yet from the first our beliefs still stand,
Our principles firm, our passions fanned
Age through Age and Art to Art.
Make what you will; to dust it will come;
The thought behind the deed is what endures.
Craft gives the figures, but Truth adds the sum,
And what cannot be handled keeps itself pure.
Truth, and Love, and Beauty all beat the heart's drum;
What's first believed in is what's seen evermore.
