Behind Sight

Am I who I am or all the people I was Do you discard me now just simply because I’m not pretty no more handsome or spry I don’t wear fancy clothes a suit and a tie Now that I’m older You don’t hear what I say So I will just listen as I slowly fade away Remember who you are won’t be the person you’ll be In the end it will be different one day you’ll be me Old is a kinda condition That’s what younger ones think Wisdom is easily ignored from that pool they don’t drink Try looking into my eyes No reason but because Answers to unasked questions revealed in who I once was. Dedicated to my Buddy David Gebhart

I really enjoyed reading this Richard. "If youth but had the knowledge and old age the strength". ~ French Proverb

Gone are the days when age was revered as synonymous with wisdom (not necessarily true!) whereas we now take instruction from the likes of Greta Thunberg! (definitely not valid). Well said Richard. Yours truly: ‘Old Curmudgeon’

G’day Richard … us older folk have got to where we are; younger folk have got to get there and don’t believe that some day they will be like us. A poem I can certain relate to - thank you Richard - Lindsay

Attaining a certain amount of invisibility provides a poet a unique vantage point. Thanks for your visit Elaine.

Thanks for your visit to my poem, Richard. Kind of you. This aging thing isn't easy, but you've put wisdom in your words about how experience is golden. Lovely poem. Hugs

Part of life's circle that we just don't see coming, we may get older but wisdom comes with it. Well written Richard, hope alls well with you. Tom

Getting older is not for sissys, we have to be strong to accept insults inconsideration, ignorance - even the medical profession has no patience with us for too long, very sad, but a fact of getting older - lovely dedication to your friend. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer. Jennifer.

A probing look at the vagaries of age, Richard. We all have what to look forward to... Peace and Serenity, Gershon
