Before I Knew You
Before I knew you
I thought you were just
a upstanding young gentleman
sent by God as very wise teacher
of the Law and moral values
Before I knew you
I thought you were
just a historical figure
who lived among us
had died, was buried
and resurrected from death
over two thousand years ago
Before I knew you
I thought that you
we're just a egotistical dictator
residing in the realms of heaven
constantly craving attention
like a domineering spouse
always looking to bake
anyone like Johnny Cake
into the rock and clay oven
of fire and brimstone for every little mistake
Now since
I have known you for myself
all of these preconceived notions of you
I have learnt about you all these years
have since ceased to exist
instead I now view you as
my saviour, my comforter, my provider
my healer, my teacher and my friend
