Beauty and Bigfoot

By thirteen I was quite tall— Five-foot seven—friends were small Always tallest in my class On school lines—was always last. Friends were shorter, more petite Always looked to size-up feet Compare shoes, I do not fib Was self-conscious—mine were big. Their size five to seven, fine— I was BigFoot! Mine was nine! Teenage complex anguished me BigFoot phobia, you see! Later friends caught up with me Height and feet grew handily Soon size nine in grownup form Looked upon as kind of norm. Thinking back on “BigFoot” years To fit in, drove me to tears! Teenage stresses to compete— Happy now with normal feet! © Sandra M. A different take and makes me sad for you in those years. I have small feet that everyone laughs at..my toes ar about 1/2 inch long. We're never satisified. Congrats on a fine win. BG

I LOVE how you took it a different way. I too wanted to focus on the FOOT theme and put that in at the end of my poem. Loved how you called it Beauty and the Beast. For the real beauty YOU are! (you should have seen my daughter, Sandra. She was huge when she was a baby. People believed I was nursing a four year old when she was under two and at age 14 she was nearly 5;11 inches. I wish I could have been as tall!!

Thanks, Andrea. Not sure "outside the box" will fly, but thought I'd give it a try. Wow, I bet your daughter looks very lovely and model-like now. Thanks for your visit! Hugs, Sandra

Those years of growth can be quite unsettling but as the years go by most are equalized by old age..Thanks for the visit to my page..A unique way to go about the contest..Sara

Your are fortunate to have feet that balance you out. I have always had small feet at 5'6 1/2" I have size 5 and half shoe size. Friends always envied me but my feet always hurt and I always wanted to have them at least a size 8. Too small to be a dancer. Glad all turned out well for you. Kids can be cruel. Hugs, Connie

Hi Connie, wow, never thought that tiny feet could cause a pain problem for taller people, even though they are cute! Yes, things did balance out in the end for me! Thank you so much for stopping by. Hugs, Sandra

Sandra, growing up is hard enough without having to do it with big feet, your poem is delightfully funny,7, but also sad when you think of the image issues of growing girls and boys and the need to fit in, best of luck in the contest and thanks for visiting my bio poem, Broken Wings

Hi Broken, thanks for visiting my page and for your sweet comments and support with a 7. Yes, times can be trying for young people, and I think it is even more difficult today with the Internet bullying, etc. Thanks again! Hugs, Sandra

You paint a picture with words that bring your childhood memories alive in the reader's mind with some sadness, offset by a dash of humor. Emile. #7
