Beat Your Wife, Cause Is Right

Yes modernization is here Islamic rules have made it clear Pick up a small stick And beat her to the wick Make her understand Obey your command Pakistan is the modern land Live like a man and beat at command Only though because you care To make her subservient and thus obey She must follow your Islamic commands And bend over for perverted desires in your satanic land Now death to Israel For they have committed the crime Of being modern in un-modern times As they saved the wounded of Syrians blood They embrace humanity Pakistan grabs a small stick And strikes fear in the sexes My god is there no common senses? Notes: This is not to condone or condemn any Country. Merely to show how at times biases take things way out of context. At times the world decries one death, as in humane as next door hundreds of thousands take place under the silent ones of oppression. Secondly this is specifically about The Council of Islamic Ideology a powerful constitutional body that advises the Pakistani legislature whether laws are in line with the teachings of Islam. There interpretation is of course ludicrous and I am well aware true Muslim worshipers would never follow such violent and antiquated teachings. This came about from the CNN article http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/28/asia/pakistan-women-light-beating/index.html on the topic. On weekends I often partake in discussions at a Middle Eastern coffee shop, people from all over the middle east, where we have lively discussions. So it’s of note that this poem was the summary and views of the Muslim mates are I was sharing tea with. Of note, many of them in their own countries could never voice any dissenting views without being tortured or killed.

gut-wrenching and yet wonderfully portrayed... somehow, people give more respect to their dogs than human being--- so sad.. huggs

There is much to contemplate in this piece. One day I must read the Koran so that I can gain understanding of such a huge branch of our humanity. Many of the things that take place are so opposite of what I believe.

Hi Richard, in my poems I was not in any way criticizing the religion or the Koran, I was being critical of this council taking such an extremist interpretation. I consider these actions more cultural and political, actually mis-using a religion. :)

"Of note, many of them in their own countries could never voice any dissenting views without being tortured or killed" sounds like another place I know. Good article and poem Arthur. Unfortunate you had to include so many disclaimers, but we have the ignorant and the opportunists to thank for that.

Thanks Rob, I was being critical of this particular council, not the religion, and with my conversations I would guess the vast majority of Muslims would agree.

I must read this article Jan speaks of Arthur. I just love the way this poem reads like the way you must talk...with such feeling.Oh to be a fly on that wall of that coffee shop.

There's always a sense of activism and righteous rage in the poems you write ... it bothers me, to tell you the truth, when people think that America is being "sexist", while ignoring those Middle Eastern countries where treating women like cattle is still the norm ... a powerful poem, as usual, to encourage people to break out of their complacency and apathy. I'm not familiar enough with the Q'uran to make judgments on what is and isn't a good interpretation.

Well I certainly didn't mean to portray righteous rage, I was merely being very colorful via a poem, translating the sentiments of the the group of wonderful people I have coffee/tea with every week! I can say with much certainty, I think hitting and instilling fear into a woman, is not a good thing!
