Bear Facts
Bear Facts
It was not the way it was supposed to end,
alone, surrounded by others, all alone.
There had been plans, always to be
together, warm and tender memories.
Aging, wrinkling at the edges,
balding, worn and saggy, left in empty
rooms, propped on too clean sheets,
moved from place to place by unfamiliar
hands. Drooping eye and sloping shoulder,
reminders of more active times, of baby
teeth and playgrounds, wet nights of
camping in the yard and hugs, long and
loving hugs by friends who made us
promises and then grew up, moved on
and left behind their truest friend,
a Teddy Bear.
