Bartimeus, the Blindman

Bartimeus, sat by the roadside In his usual place of begging. He heard the crowd and Jesus, So he began to shout out pleading “Jesus, Son of David— Have mercy on me” The crowd rebuked him; Told him to hush his plea. Jesus stopped and called him So he threw his cloak aside; Rushed blindly to Jesus, Whose heart was open wide. “What do you want?” Jesus asked the beggar “Rabbi, I want to see,” he said “That I may walk and not stagger” “Go, your faith has healed you” Was Jesus sweet reply. Bartimeus jumped for joy For this miracle his sight did supply. Immediately he followed Jesus Able to walk on his own. His spiritual needs Now to be filled Heavenward to roam. Just like the crowd that day We often fail to assist Those who need Jesus— To tell them we resist. Afraid of rejection Opportunities pass us by. To bring the hurting to our Lord, Even when for help they cry. Bartimeus, the blind beggar Received what he asked; Healing that he might see— In God’s glory to bask. The moral of this story Is for us to leave Laodicea; Lead the world to Jesus For He’s man’s only panacea! Copyright © Maureen LeFanue 2009-2011
