Oh, say can you see by the Lord's holy light Who so proudly we nailed to Golgotha's cursed tree? Whose back stripes and white scars from betrayal's delight Oh the pain he endured was for our hope and healing Then the angels declared he was no longer there The grave is empty now our Lord is risen Oh, say that Jesus still reigns eternally O'er the homes of the saved and the hearts of the free! Praise God!

SEAN: Didn't mean to confuse but new at this "commenting thing" and thought a 7 meant "great job". Of course I'm greatly bias toward any presentation of the gospel in any form. I found yours unique. So I'll just say it here: Great Job. I also wasn't aware it was part of a set. :o) Keep up the good work. oldbuck

No worries. I'm new to PoetrySoup and the particulars of its commenting too. I'm glad you enjoyed "Banner" and thank you for the compliment! I look forward to checking out some of your stuff soon.

Sean: Now you know how a preacher feels that dedicates his entire life to telling one story. It's hard to keep telling the truth in a new way. I'll give you a 7 for trying. Keep sharing your faith, you won't wear it out. oldbuck

So... Now that I've found the rating system here, I realize that 7 is top honors, not 2/3 of the way. Thank you, Old Buck!

I'm a bit confused by your rating. Can you elaborate? Was it the poem, the presentation of the Gospel, or something else? This poem comes from a growing collection I've titled *Citizen Songs.* Each poem borrows the rhythm of a song of American patriotism and changes the words to reflect the Christian's citizenship in Heaven (cf. Phil 3:20).
