Autumn's Solace

You weep because you feel unloved, That your fate is of no concern To the multitudes or that cherished one For whose affection you yearn. Your love is deep, and you’ve waited long For a word, a smile, or a touch; And I am cursed with that special grief Reserved for those loved too much. Since our futures lie in mystery, And the past can’t be undone, The orange lawn awaits us now In the midday lemon sun. Autumn may comfort our aching hearts, Offer balm in its summer-soft air, Let its glorious leaves caress our sleeves And cling to our breeze-blown hair.
