Autumn Leaves
Autumn Leaves
Slowly, summer makes its coloured way
From tree to tree, then gently to the ground.
Each leaf that falls will try its best to stay
Near others, who their resting place have found.
A carpet, laid with care beneath my feet
That changes, right before me, as I stare
In disbelief that once again I greet
The autumn, in its beauty, soft and fair.
In childhood would I lie beneath these trees
And, looking skyward, feel them as they form
A quilted blanket, woven as they please,
To keep me safe before the coming storm.
But all too soon the woodlands all are bare
As winter holds them firmly in its maw.
My autumn view has lost its muted glare,
Yet still I see the coat that Joseph wore.
