At the Precipice

At the precipice he stood nigh, Contemplating tomorrow, As thereof the darkness loom’d With everlasting sorrow; Then he peer’d into the chasm To see the depths of his despair, But then he heard his lov’r wailing, For she had fallen there! At the precipice he stood upon, O’ near enough to fall, For he’d lost his heart and soul When sorrow came to call; Then again he listen’d unto the chasm, Where time doth ever flow, And tho’ he heard his lov’r wailing, He feared what was below! At the precipice he stood upon, For sadness drew him nigh, As life had come to no direction And no means to rectify; Thus he listen’d unto the chasm That now foretold his doom, And he replied unto his lov’r, For he’d be with her soon! At the precipice he stood nigh, As sadness would not abate, And a voice from within the abyss Had forespoken of his fate. O, then as he peer’d into the chasm He saw the depths of his despair, Thus he too now dwells deep within, For she had lured him there!
