At Night
Lately,
I've been thinkin' about leavin' you.
I don't think on it much
in the daytime,
but at night,
after we make love
and you drift off
into a careless sleep,
I lie next to you
with my head propped
and I think about how
you use to come
straight home after work
with carnations and Chinese take-out.
And how we'd spend Friday nights
makin' plans for the weekend.
And I think about how
we use to cuddle each other in bed,
braggin' or *****in' about our day.
And then,
then--
I think about how
good you smell
when you come home late at night--
tippin' into our bedroom
and slippin' into bed,
while I lie there
pretendin' to be asleep.
