Ashes
I scattered your ashes to catch the breeze
To fly in the air with the birds and bees
Then fall to the ground for your final rest
To give life to the flowers you loved best.
Your soul is now free to roam o’re the earth
On your way to heaven, place of your birth
God gave you to me for a little while
To enrich my life with your gentle smile.
For you were such a special friend to me
You taught me how to accept what must be
You held me close, told me all would be right
And lay by my side in the darkest night.
So, now when I walk in a meadow fair
And smell a sweet scent in the morning air
I remember the times I shared with you
When we were together, and life was new.
Ashes are like natures fingerprints
All that remain of a body well spent
But memories of love shared will carry on
In my heart until my last breath is drawn.
