As I Recall
As I recall
I sat here with you once
on this old log in the woods
and sealed our love
by carving our names on this log
many moons ago
The log has aged and so have I
But the memory of you
still lingers
It lingers on the ideal times
we spent together
building our dreams
one dollar at a time
with money left for love
and wine
then fortune shone upon us
things got better and we created
a pompous air
then things got bitter and I
did'nt care
what really mattered most
in our life
As I recall
we wasted words in anger
and left a void so many times
that took so long to fill
then you were ill
your health had waned
I did'nt believe
but I asked your God
for a chance to change
to redeem myself before its too late
what really mattered most
in our life
in order to rebuild my soul
to be the man you knew as kind
to please make you better
one more time
My wish was short lived
but I cherished each moment
while you were there
you left me a gift
and asked me to rediscover
where we both began
As I recall it was this spot where
on this log our names still show
my name has faded but yours is visible
for I dug yours deeper
and now I know, dearest
oh, yes now I know
