Around the Corner

When butterflies with flowers play, The birds outside would sing along. Hope soared steadfastly on life’s way. For love was full and joy was strong. Sweet smiles declared each happy day. As hope shone bright within life’s throng. Around the corner misery Reversed the path that set them free. No longer could grandchildren play Or hug the parents that they love. No longer did their father stay. Their mother lost her turtledove. Unseemly lies changed their life’s way. The State came in with their white glove. Fear signed some forms and they agreed. But sadly father could not read. Three children ripped from their life’s way When dad retreated from their care. Too much to handle some folks say – Evicted with no cash to share. Their stay-home mother… tossed away. Now, children sometimes sit and stare. With old grandparents they now stay. The children pray to God above. Their mother distantly sends love.
