Argument
ARGUMENT
Uncertain that the day must end
some clouds keep hanging on
with fingers red and pearly gray
to light what's almost gone;
their argument is to the sun
a lover in retreat
from losing battles waged with time
who goes down in defeat;
and clinging to one breath of life
each cloud is mustering
to be a force, a shining knight,
against what dark might bring.
and so the sun sets in a pause
much bigger than it's been,
alive with hope and energy
as if to rise again;
but time, the thief, who always wins,
knows love has things to steal,
and cloaks it all in dark until
it's light was never real;
and so goes love, into a sleep,
and dreaming that some way
my love for you shall rise again
into another day.
