Areas Unknown

People often like to stay
Within their comfort zone,
Wary of a crossing
Into areas unknown.

Though the unfamiliar
May be tempting and exotic,
It contains some risks
Uncomfortable for the neurotic.

So we eat and dress and drive
And stick to our routines,
Envious of those who have
Adventure in their genes.

Things familiar make us feel
Secure in all we do;
How lucky are the people
Always up for something new.

    Ah yes! One's 'comfort zone!' I must admit I stick to it more as I get older... though I did have my adventurous moments when in my teens. '...uncomfortable for the neurotic,' '...adventure in their genes,' marvelous phrasing! BRAVO Ilene!! Best wishes, Keith

    How I love your poems. Haven't been on the soup for a long time. But was on for a little bit today and had to check out a poem by my favorite poet. Wishing you the very best.

    They risk their lives and expect us to watch. That's not what I call fun. Sit in suspense, await their fate and so glad when they are done. Thrill seekers, not what I call entertainment. Just a rant. :/
