Anticipating Christmas

I remember the anticipation of Christmas Days passed so slowly as excitement filled the air Practice for special Christmas pageants at church Worrying that I might forget my part in the play, Listening while plans were made for Christmas Day While feeling that something could prevent a visit From Santa. Lots of talk about being extra good For Santa had been known to deliver lumps of coal To little boys and girls who had been naughty How awful it would be to find nothing under the tree! Excitement mixed with apprehension, even fear That the thing you wanted most wouldn’t be there, Even though you had been warned it was awfully Expensive, and “Santa is short on money, you know.” Hope was high, especially as we shopped for small Gifts for family members and marked off the days. I have never heard of anyone actually doing this to their children but I bet some would "For Santa had been known to deliver lumps of coal To little boys and girls who had been naughty How awful it would be to find nothing under the tree!" You are right. It would be awful.
