Another Poppy
Another Poppy
Took our car to the car wash today,
Just to wash the Cyprus dust away.
The Big Red Poppy in my window,
Had long since lost it's ruddy glow.
Though it's meaning has never declined,
Thoughts of guys in hot places in my mind.
Thoughts of those in jungle, sand and buried at sea,
Thoughts of those blown up, leaving nothing to see.
Thoughts of those in the trenches with empty eyes,
Thoughts of all those gone my heart cries.
So that faded Poppy I will soon replace,
For to forget is , to me, a disgrace.
On my breast every day, pinned for all to see.
Is a bright Red Poppy that I wear so proudly.
Lest we forget.
