Angel On Her Corner

She tries to keep her head up,
but ends up in a cloud.
When things don’t go her way,
she can’t keep her feet on the ground.
Today was just too hard
and what’ll happen tomorrow?
She lays her head down every night
and thinks, “If only I could borrow
someone else’s shoes
to walk in for a day,
just to know what it’s like
when things are going my way.”

Well, she got her wish one night,
as she dreamt in another’s shoes…
the shoes of the man on her corner
who’s always singing the blues.
This was a man who had nothing,
but his guitar and raggedy clothes.
In the open case, two dollar bills
and a wilted yellow rose.

She woke up the next morning
and thought, “Today will be just fine,”
walked to the man on her corner,
told him, “Here, these aren’t mine.”
For when she looked at this old man,
he wore a frown, but no shoes on his feet.
“I think I borrowed these last night.
I live here, on this street.”
But she never noticed him before that day,
the old man on her corner.
Now he smiles when she passes by,
knowing the lesson he showed her…
Every day can be beautiful
and better than the last.
Be happy in your own two shoes
because life goes by too fast.
