An Eye Toward Creation and a Merrier Future

The toy boxes empty, and yesterday's thrills Are buried together in mountainous hills I still so remember the virgin land sweet They deemed it would hide all that treasure discrete And way back, I think around bout '67 Began hurling trash there, Now a hill mounts toward heaven Many a purchase, many a thrill Couches, and washers and toys in that hill Purchased with sweat and such toil of a brow For loves sake, for Holidays purpose allowed All of that love, so much hard-earned cash Forgotten, forsaken in hills full of trash And so in my lifetime I watched the hill grow Blocking the sunset that we use to know A million sweet scents from that desert once rose Now the air smells of refuse, and much trash disposed As Christmastime comes with her visions serene The lights in a twinkle on the evergreens Casting our eyes to the dear Saviors Birth May we remember God's gift of our earth Repurpose, creating our gifts for loved ones A gift of an Earth to our future grandsons A gift of clean air and pure sparkling waters To all of creation, and our future daughters A pure wish for merry, though we've less cash to spend The truest of love lasts beyond our lives end Merry Christmas is coming, may we choose to pay It forward for Earth's sake and much brighter days

Wow, BJ this is a really different way of showing the down side of all that Christmas buying. I hardly throw anything away, but I know people who are always buying things for their kids and trashing the stuff so fast. I really like what you did here. Reflective and profound poetry.

Andrea, you are an encourager <3 You know I wrote this poem before my sister went to the hospital, and then when she did, I didn't get everything done for Christmas yet, my plans fell through, especially after she died. I didn't get the gifts I planned done, but you influenced me with something you said, they like money!! I made them money pizza's, now they have green gifts, and they really like that green gift <3 Just so ya know <3 :)

We heap trash in places which have been so pristine with clean air and virgin soil. Now most of the places and water sources are polluted ! What harm we are doing to the future generation. The concern you express is the concern of most sensible people. When Christmas comes, let us join our hands together to improve our surroundings and better the conditions ! A beautiful writing dear friend.

This year I'm going to make some gifts from my citrus trees and someday they will simply go back to the earth and not cause harm. I'm trying to hold desperately to my convictions, and hopefully, this is something my kids/grandkids will embrace in their own lives. Heavy advertising and that holiday music can sooo brainwash us, I'm avoiding it all like the plague! I'm also avoiding the store to the best of my ability. I must say, those newspaper ads they keep cramming in my mailbox will certainly make some great paper mâché' projects to do with my grandbabies! Your visit and comment have blessed my heart sweet friend. :) I join hands with you from over the miles! Pinterest sure is a wealth of great ideas for earth-friendly, budget-happy gifts to make. It is my happy place right now! <3

BJ, this tugs at my heart. Been aware of everything you wrote about .God sees what you've seen. He will soon reverse all the damage done to this earth. A scripture in Revelations mentions ...(He will destroy those destroying the earth.) Have you ever read this.? I usually don't quote without the chapter and verse.

Hi Barbara, it is nice to meet you, thank you for stopping by and commenting. Yes, I am aware of the scripture you mentioned in Revelation. I actually wrote another poem called Mother Earth, The Father's Creation, and referred to that verse. Thank you for reminding me that God will reverse the evil when He reigns on the earth for a thousand years. I hope there is a solution before the catastrophic end, but even the scientists have set the doomsday clock to one minute before midnight, it doesn't look good, but I pray there is resolve soon. It really breaks my heart...knowing it really has been pretty much the last hundred years that the earth has been so terribly polluted. I hope you will look at my other poem as well. I will visit your site soon <3

I agree Victor, thank you for stopping by with your comment. I always appreciate you. I will be over soon to look at your poems again soon. This past week has been quite over the top for me and I've had little time to enjoy PoetrySoup. I hope you are well and are having a nice weekend.
