An Artist I'Ll Always and Forever Be

Storytelling without words Paintbrush in hand Strokes of colors in various hues Painting what I see, what I know Creating masterpieces on canvas This is what I've always done This is what I do best Life, alas, is too short At sixty five young, a new skill Switching paintbrush to quill Putting words to my paintings My thoughts of what I perceive Beauty of expressions Creating mental images In rhythmical formed verses This is what I'll attempt to do You're never too old Too learn new things For Tracie's contest, "Gimmi What I Want... What I Really Really Want"

Just realized I had called my poem digging for gold when it was actually digging for diamonds. hahaha. sounds like I am a gold digger, but that is sure not true. by the way, how is your health. I remember now you had a surgery a while back. Hope you are doing ok now. Luv, Andrea

August 23rd I'll be going in for my last of three surgeries this year. The rest of my cervical spine will be fused. It'll be a long recovery this time. Mentally preparing, (fear, worry and hope), that's why I haven't been writing. Thank you Andrea for stopping by and asking. I'll miss all of you here on PS. Warm Smiles, always, Connie

Thank you Deb for the congrats. I didn't know I won. I've been busy getting ready to go into the hospital. Tomorrow I'll have a cervical surgery, my 4th. Recoup will be a must. Thank God for PS, it's kept my mind off of pain and will keep me busy reading members' poems while recouping. Warm Smiles, Connie

I finally saw what you said to me about my comment here, that the artist is not you in this poem. That's ok. I think you are an artist in your own right! May you write many more beautiful poems, my wish for you in this New Year.

This is me in this poem Andrea. If I wrote that it wasn't, it's either my terrible typing skills or a senior moment. Which I have many of. I draw and paint and taught art as well. Over 40 years, I would say. That sounds old. Thanks for your comment. And I'm having fun writing and learning much on PS. Warm Smiles, Connie

this is awesome, both the writing quality AND its message. you remind me of a friend whom I met when I was not quite 50 and she was around 65 and she had just taken up poetry instead of painting! Five years later she went back to painting again and stopped being my friend. Sad but true story. this made me think of her.

Thank you Andrea for the wonderful comment. This artist that went from poetry back to being an artist, not me. although I'm an artist and I am 65, I've only been writing poetry for 3months. I will be your friend .

Mandy thank you for your comment. This poem came from my heart and a personal challenge, since I cannot paint any longer because of cervical problems. As I type, I have a special set up for my IPad so not to tilt my head downward. Warm Smiles Always, Connie

Just beautiful Connie! The idea of an artist creating without words and bringing out her perception is a powerful thought, and then when you add words to your paintings, they come alive. 'never too old to learn' - well said, progression lives on in the artist. Well written poem this.

What does it mean to be n artist? Stephen King said, "Life isn't a support system for art, it's the other way around." Art supports life . Self-expressing, a painting or a symphony or a poem, being an artist becomes a state of mind. It becomes a joy of the soul
