An Apology To the Light

I draw my hand from the flame This mortal frame can bear it no longer Its been built on memories of a present that has long since passed The flame flickers differently now It chases the wind and nothing more If I had a heart it might have broken It might have stopped and begun beating in reverse Trying to turn back time The day you stood up there With fire in your eyes The day I realized that I might want to watch this world burn But I dont want it to be in your flames Your heart is the verdict Not the one who casts it Call me a hypocrite Call me confused Call me unstable No matter how much I thought I wanted you by my side in the dark I need you to stay in the light I need to know there is at least one ray left It only takes a single beam to destroy a world of shadows I draw my hand from the flame The sun has gone from my life There is nothing left Just as there is no one by this now empty space No one but me and the darkness rippling over my skin Rising from within Filling the cracks your fading footsteps have left inside of me.
