We did it ourselves with our waste and our greed Warnings were given but no-one took heed They said the sea level slowly would rise as heat and pollution built up in the skies They said that the ice caps would melt clean away and that low lying lands would go under one day They said that the deserts would creep 'cross the land But the experts were wrong, they did not understand They said global warming would slowly get worse What actually happened was quite the reverse The water that formed from the melting of ice diluted the seas and the world paid the price The great ocean currents that kept the lands warm moved further south, or no longer did form The winters got longer and the snow stayed around A brilliant mirror that covered the ground The heat from the sun was reflected to space and the glaciers advanced all across the Earth's face The tropics were covered in deep permafrost and life on the land, forever, was lost Year upon year the ice grew much thicker and feedback ensured that the process grew quicker Nobody thought that's the way it would go Buried forever under five miles of snow And even at this the freeze did not stop The oceans froze up from the bottom to the top The last life on Earth, in the depths of the seas finally succumbed to the ultimate freeze The climate, unstable, was perched on a wedge It didn't take much to fall over the edge The snowball that's Earth will for aeons remain until 'nova Sol' melts the ice once again
