An Almost Perfect Morning

Walking out of my door after the storm I noticed that the steps leading to the house Were covered with bits and pieces Of fallen twigs and leaves While the sun, in its haste to dry up the land Made the air thick and heavy with moisture Stepping outside Twigs snapped underfoot And the leaves made a squishing sound While I walked about the house Coaxing my dog (Jade) To take care of her morning business The morning was much cooler than usual Making me feel invigorated As I smilingly watched Jade run about Sniffing at the ground Looking for small animals to chase after Rabbits or squirrels, which she never caught It was a clean morning With the smell of grass and trees in the air Washed by the previous night's storm And as I stood watching Jade run about I thought that this was an almost perfect morning Perfect in the sense, I almost didn’t think of you
