Amerika the Beauty Falls

'America the Beautiful' was an uplifting poem written by Katharine Lee Bates in 1895. I wrote this modern version to reflect on the sorry state of our nation today. Amerika the Beauty Falls Land of the guided missiles and home of the misguided policies. Land of the deep state and home of the shallow politicians. Home of the deceit, by the few, for the few. Government of the corrupts, by the corrupts, for the corrupts. What a country. Amerika! Amerika! One nation under prescription drugs, FDA approved, with side effects and addiction for all. One nation under taught, uneducated, with fake and passing grades for all. One nation under paid, broke, with crushing debt and past due bills for all. One nation under surveillance, spied, with repression and FEMA camps for all. And I am being optimistic. Amerika! Amerika! One sad nation, jailed, with injustice and debtor prisons for all. One sick nation, brainwashed, with fake news and Russiagate for all. One scared nation, terrorized, with invented enemies and made up wars for all. One suicidal nation, overextended, with nuclear weapons and two minutes away from doomsday. Sadly, I live here. Amerika! Amerika!
