America

America, where unrest grows Between two parties, ill winds blow That mark the tone: while in the sky That once so proud bald eagle cries Scare heard amid the lies below Raging egos: Oh how they sow Those seeds of hate, so deep below And ruin the soil: when they divide America! Lay down your quarrel with the foe And stand together row on row Your flag: for ever more to fly When differences are put aside Only then, will you truly know America!

Seems like I have heard this poem before. In Flander's field the poppies blow. Between the crosses row on row. That mark our places and in the sky. The larks still bravely sing and fly. Enjoyed reading your work. Sara

Thank you for stopping by, dear Sara..and for your comments. Yes! This poem is a Rondeau which is the exact form the poem In Flanders Fields was written. This was for a Rondeau contest of America. PS I was so surprised to find out your short story was a true story. They say true life is stranger than any fiction we can ever come up with, and I have found this to be true in telling the story of my life in a series of story stories. Wishing you the best year ever in 2021. ~ Elaine

"That government which governs least governs best." (Henry David Thoreau) with which we all agree... until the fires are raging. Would that the world were filled with fireman and not princes-to-be.

Elaine, very nicely penned. To me it seems that the split between the two parties is getting wider and that moderates are becoming an endangered species. I fear that if we don't start working together it may be the end of our society as we know it. John
