Alpine Park

Alpine Park Our children's laughing voices animated the alpine air. The scene was a park chain-sawed out of a small forest. We took them there for the swings--and a fanciful bear. That was burnt summers ago when all of us were young. One autumn noon when shadows are like thoughts--long my wife and I resolved to revisit our family's alpine retreat. Swings were gone, but 'Higher, Daddy!' echoed as a song and so did 'I'm hungry, Mom, when will we eat?' We breathed deeply, sighed sadly, mulling vanished years. We asked anew if we did all we could to raise them right. But the idyllic scene that encompassed us calmed our fears and every nagging doubt was laid to rest that autumn night. © 2017 poetryaa3 (All rights reserved)

Thank you, Lindsay. In a way, memories are more precious than the experience itself. The experience is singular, but it can live on in perpetuity. We can enlarge it . . . make it more glorious than it actually was. Hugs, always, Paul

As we age I find our most memorable moments are the ones where we connect with our loved ones...not big events...just simple times where love shines. I love your poem Paul. Blessings, Connie : )

You write the truth, Connie. Memories enable us to connect with our loved ones even when they are no longer with us. And as you perceptively note, that truism becomes more operative in our lives as we age. Thank you! Hugs, Paul

What wonderful memories Paul and I think the emotions portrayed in the poem echo those of many parents... did we do it right... could we have done something better, but that is the price of age and experience:-) hugs Jan xx

Ultimately, that's what we're left with--memories; right, Jan? That being the case, we should try to make every day one that will live, in some way, in our memories. That isn't possible, of course, but it's worth the effort. Thanks, Jan. Hugs, Paul.

I appreciate your kind comment, Cheryl. When children are young and sometimes difficult, parents don't realize there will never be a happier time in their lives. * * * All the best to you and your cherished ones. Hugs, Paul
