After the Fall

He fell so early from the image to the grime And lay there, flatly oozing helplessness. Anger, and something left of love combined, Plunged to urge him free, Wiped its hands and set back the idol high, Only slightly out of plumb. The shattering was mine.

Falling can happen. But to get up from the fallen state, one requires the willpower or somebody must help him ! Much conveyed in a few lines. Great poem dear Elizabeth.

Thank you, Valsa. So kind of you to comment. It's the only way I know whether I'm doing any of this right! Elizabeth

Enjoyed! It is a mystery how love can blind one so thoroughly to a loved one's flaws, and quite a shock when revealed! Aloha!

An excellent poem, Elizabeth, which I presume was written out of a frustrating incident in your life. Extremely well-written.

I do appreciate your comments, Milton. Yes, my father slowly descended throughout my childhood into alcoholism. He was eventually cured only with the harshest means and never totally recovered his brilliant wit and winning aplomb. Elizabeth

So true your advice, many falls but it's best to get up and be a man.

Thank you, Victor. Yes, and he did get up valiantly, but never completely recovered his confidence and self-esteem. So I was sad. Elizabeth
